I found this in the horror section of our local secondhand bookstore. It sounded interesting enough and Ive been meaning to start reading books marked as horror anyways, so I took the plunge and bought it.There isnt really any time wasted in getting to the story, which is rather nice.

The shifting view from Kate and her family to the people living in the actual house is also something I really enjoyed. There was a lot of witty writing and Kate was written wonderfully. I really felt like I was reading about a kid and not just a miniature adult, yknow? But heres the thing. Despite all of the nice writing and the characters I found interesting, it didnt live up to my expectations.

I expected to feel anxious at minimum at some point, but I didnt. I find the concept wonderful and very intriguing, but I also think that it could have been executed slightly better and the story told more effectively. I also found myself incredibly disappointed with the ending. Now, I could go on and on about it if I felt like it, but this is about all I have to say.

So, review in basic summary: great concept, interesting characters, but not something Id truly consider to be Horror. A little disappointing, but not entirely a waste of time.I hope somebody finds this useful! (nervous cat emoji here)
